PATRICK DUFFY
I like Patrick Duffy. I never had a crush on him like my older sister Lori, but he seems like a really great normal guy. He is best known for portraying Bobby Ewing on Dallas, but I like to think of him as Frank Lambert from Step by Step. He was dumb and sexy in that show.
Patrick G. Duffy was born on March 17, 1949 in Townsend, Montana. Aren’t all people from Montana nice? He moved to the Seattle area when he was 12. He then moved to Hollywood in the early 70′s where he drove a florist’s delivery truck while auditioning for roles. He was working as a house painter in 1976 when he landed his first major role on Man From Atlantis. One week after that show was canceled, he won his most famous role of Bobby Ewing on Dallas. That show continued on until 1991 when he won his next big role. Duffy portrayed Frank Lambert on Step by Step where his wife was played by Suzanne Somers. That show ended in 1998 and he has continued to pop up here and there ever since. I know he recently played Stephen Logan on The Bold and the Beautiful. Does this guy ever rest? Oh yeah, I also saw him hosting a game show on the Game Show Network. He does it all!

- Graduated from Cascade High School in Everett, Washington in 1967.
- Attended the University of Washington in Seattle where he was an actor-in-residence in the theater program.
- Has been a Buddhist for over 40 years.

- Is allergic to penicillin and wears a medical alert bracelet.

- Son Padraic portrayed Mark Harris on Dallas. Mark Harris was the name of Duffy’s character on Man from Atlantis. Coincidence?
- Son Conor portrayed Little J.R. on the final episode of Dallas in 1991.
- Duffy could hold his breath underwater for three minutes when he was filming Man from Atlantis.
- Duffy’s wife, Carlyn, is the one who suggested the dream season which explained Bobby Ewing’s return from the dead. So she’s the one to blame…..
- The dream sequence was a surprise to all of the actors, even his TV wife (played by Victoria Principal). The Dallas people hired a separate camera crew to film what they thought was an Irish Spring commercial. The result is the famous shower scene where Bobby Ewing returns from the dead. That’s actually pretty awesome.
- Earned $75K for each episode of Dallas.
- Between the beginning of Man From Atlantis in 1977 and the end of Step by Step in 1998, he was only out of work for a total of three weeks. That’s quite a run.
- Had a single reach number five in The Netherlands in 1983. He sings too?
- San Francisco Giants pitching star Barry Zito is Duffy’s nephew.
- Is a grandpa with one granddaughter and one grandson.
- His parents were murdered during an armed robbery in 1986 at the bar they owned in Montana. I can’t even imagine……
Patrick and his wife Carlyn have been married for 36 which is a lot for ANY couple, let alone someone in the business. They own a ranch in Oregon but visit LA for work or visits with their children and grandchildren. Patrick seems like one of those guys who will always be around and on the TV somewhere. Let’s hope this is the case.

BRANDON CALL
He was an adorable little boy. He played a funny sarcastic jerk on Step By Step. He was a tough guy in real life when he got shot in both arms during road rage on the 405 in Los Angeles. Now he appears to be a doting father living a normal life. Brandon Call was a brief teen idol in the 1990′s. He was born on November 17, 1976 and began his entertainment career shortly after.
His first credited acting job was a small role in a 1984 episode of Simon & Simon. He also portrayed Brandon Capwell in the soap opera Santa Barbara, was in a handful of Magnum, P.I. episodes, and was Hobie on Baywatch. He did many other shows and movies, but his most substantial role was that of J.T. Lambert on Step By Step.
Step By Step was kind of a modern 1990′s Brady Bunch. It ran for seven seasons and starred Patrick Duffy (of Dallas fame), Suzanne Somers (of Three’s Company fame), and a whole bunch of kids. I always laughed at the opening credits of that show because they were so bad. The amusement park is obviously Six Flags Magic Mountain in Santa Clarita, California but then they have the fake water splashing up right next to the roller coaster (Colossus). I would think they could have done a better job in the 1990′s of adding in the fake water. BTW, I know my roller coasters. My husband and I were going to get married on the Goliath at Magic Mountain. We ended up getting married at city hall for $92. But I digress……
Step By Step was set in Port Washington, Wisconsin which is where loser Dustin Diamond (Screech from Saved By the Bell) lives. In addition to Brandon Call, the show starred many other young actors who would end up in the teen magazines: Sasha Mitchell (Cody), Jason Marsden (Rich Halke), Andrew Keegan (Matt Crawford), and Staci Keanan (Dana).
BRANDON CALL TRIVIA
- Brandon Call auditioned and was actually cast in the role of Kevin Arnold in The Wonder Years. He was replaced at the last minute by Fred Savage.
- Brandon Call was supposedly asked to leave the cast of Baywatch when it was picked up for syndication. Brandon had grown so much and was almost as tall as star David Hasselhoff (and I’m sure better looking). Hasselhoff probably felt threatened so he cast a younger boy to play Hobie Buchannon. The role went to Jeremy Jackson who looked nothing like Brandon. They did a Chris Partridge.
- Brandon has a daughter, born in 1998.
- He was shot in both arms on September 3, 1996 as a result of road rage on the 405 in Southern California. I think he was on his way home from a Step By Step taping.
Brandon Call has retired from acting and is currently being a dad to his middle school aged daughter. He lives in Southern California and reportedly helps out at his parents’ gas station and car wash. He’s a normal guy living a normal life. Nothing wrong with that.
UPDATE: According to Brandon’s daughter Amanda, he is now in real estate.
